Video Audio Tri –lingual Disaster Alert System (VATDAS)

The need for an early warning system (EWS) to tackle natural disasters led to the development of Video Audio Tri –lingual Disaster Alert System (VATDAS), using the technology of Radio Data Systems (RDS). The system works by sending a small amount of digital data to FM Radio listeners using traditional FM transmissions. A message containing the location identification code and a brief description of the impending event is sent to the radio stations connected to the EWS system, by authorized government bodies. This message, which is transmitted from the station, will be received by the EWS enabled domestic radios and public display panels. If the location identification code of the message matches location code of the radio, it will display the warning messages and give an audible alarm, as well as open the voice channel of the FM radio. The radio receiver is always tuned in to the EWS enabled radio station. If the signals are received from more than one EWS enabled radio station, the receiver will automatically tune in to the strongest signal. If it can not detect any EWS enabled radio station it will give an error message both in viewable and audible format.
